A man has left TikTok users reeling after sharing a tip for cooking rice without heat – using a can of Coca Cola.
Adrian Ghervan, from London, shared a clip of himself using the unusual method on TikTok, where his post racked up nearly 100,000 likes.
In the video, he pours some brown basmati rice into a glass before filling it up with a can of Coca Cola.
He then wraps the glass in clingfilm and sets it aside.
When he returns 24 hours, the rice has absorbed the Coke and appears to be cooked – having swelled in size, and resembling the texture of cooked rice.
Adrian describes it as “perfectly cooked”.
Viewers were horrified by the trick, and pointed out it could be dangerous to consume, as the rice isn’t technically cooked.
One person said: “NOOOOOOO NOT THE RICE.”
“Mate it’s not cooked it’s just soaked,” said another user.
Someone else commented: “Isn’t that how you get food poisoning?”
“How do you even find this out?” another user asked.
“Why not just boil it for 10mins, quicker, cheaper and you don’t need to add a sugary chemical drink,” pointed out someone else.
“But it takes longer than is you where to JUST COOK THE RICE!!” said another critic.
One user commented: “This hurts the soul.”
Another person commented you would get “diabetes” if you ate the rice, while someone else called the hack a “war crime”.
“It makes sense but the rice is gonna taste like coke and das not gud,” added another person. [sic]
Adrian previously went viral sharing his hack for cooking without energy – using tealight candles.
