A mother who was diagnosed with ALS has been given the chance to dance again thanks to her three sons in an emotional clip that has left social media users in tears.

Kathy Poirier, from Florida, US, has gone viral after a video emerged of the heart-warming moment, which took place at her son Zak Poirier’s wedding.

The mum-of-three suffers with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) – a progressive nervous system disease which affects nerve control in the brain and spine, leading to a loss of muscle control – and is unable to stand by herself.

However, Zak and his two brothers were determiend to make their mother’s wish come true while at his wedding – supporting her weight so that she could dance with the groom.

The clip has racked up over 43,000 views so far, with Zak captioning the post:”My mum was diagnosed with ALS shortly before I graduated law school.

“Since that time, I’ve watched her bravely fight her diagnosis and challenge the odds against her.

“Despite not being able to stand on her own, my mom and I shared a dance at my wedding.

“She inspires me every day to be humble, kind and selfless.

“Love you mom.”

In the video, Kathy can be seen sitting in her wheelchair, while her three sons help her onto the dance floor.

As the crowd surrounds the family, phones and flashes can be seen in the background, ready to capture the memorable event.

Kathy’s eyes are filled with tears as she is lifted out of the wheelchair and into her children’s arms.

The foursome slowly move along to the music as Zak whispers “I love you” into his mother’s ear.

Afterwards, Kathy is slowly lowered back into her chair while the crowd applaud the family.

The three men kiss their mum on the forehead before presenting her to the cheering crowd.

Social media users have shared their emotional response online.

“My good cry for the day. Bless your heart, bless your mom. Your mom raised a good man,” one viewer commented.

Another person added: “The way you look at her, talk to her and take her into your arms is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.”

“This is absolutely beautiful,” someone else wrote, followed by a praying emoji.

“Truly beautiful moment. I lost my father to ALS last year and during my wedding he could barely walk but we didn’t know his diagnosis. Wish I would have tried this… we never go out dance. My support to you and your family,” another viewer added.
